From Brazil to Bali

Beginning in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, the Forests Now Declaration will be signed by key stakeholders right across the world’s great remaining rainforests. It is set to arrive at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bali in December, where world leaders are to begin pivotal renegotiations of the Kyoto Protocol and will decide on the role that forestry will be able to play in future efforts to limit emissions and support developing countries.

“Global markets for products like beef and coffee have been driving deforestation. The measures called for in this Declaration offer an opportunity to compete head to head with the money a country was making elsewhere while protecting forests. We absolutely must do it if we are serious about climate stability.” Kevin Conrad, Executive Director of the Coalition for Rainforest Nations
